URBANITY DANCE TO PRESENT THE 6th ANNUAL
BOSTON CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL
Camille A. Brown and Dancers to Headline
BOSTON, MA－The Boston Contemporary Dance Festival will return for its sixth year on August 11th, 2018. Founded in 2012 by Betsi Graves, the festival brings a diverse array of contemporary dance artists together from across the United States, inviting the greater Boston community to experience this art form at its finest. This year, 31 contemporary companies and choreographers were selected from 90 applicants to present their work at the festival. Produced by Urbanity Dance, two festival performances will take place at The Huntington Avenue Theatre at 2pm and 7:30pm.
According to Betsi Graves, this year’s 2pm Boston Showcase has the greatest number of local performers in BCDF history, including works from dance ensembles, troupes, and local choreographers from the New England area. The 7:30pm National Showcase, arguably the festival’s strongest lineup to date, will feature dance companies and choreographers from around the nation carefully selected by the BCDF Panel. The evening performance is also noteworthy for its feast of duets, offering the audience a unique exploration of how various contemporary choreographers approach dancemaking for two.
Award-winning NYC-based Camille A. Brown and Dancers will headline the Festival. Maleek Washington and Timothy Edwards will perform “turf,” a male duet section from “ink” (the final installment of Brown’s trilogy of identity works).
Jaclyn Walsh, a dancer in Keigwin + Company since 2011 and named "25 to Watch" in 2015 by Dance Magazine, will perform a duet with Brandon Koepsell. “Boston holds a special place in our hearts, as I am originally from Massachusetts and both Brandon and I met and first started collaborating together at Walnut Hill School,” says Walsh.
